In short: YES
Microsoft is ending the ability of retailers to sell PC’s loaded with Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium and/or Ultimate on October 31, 2014. However, Microsoft has not yet announced an end-date for Windows 7 Professional on pre-loaded systems. Due to the failure of Windows 8 to catch fire in the marketplace, many businesses have continued to rely on Windows 7 Pro. Here at ESG we recommend Windows 7 Pro over Windows 8 due to the software compatibility issues and user experience issues. The forthcoming Windows 10 successor to Windows 8 (they skipped Windows 9) will not be available until mid-2015.
